Cold traps
Cold traps / cold fingers made of glass or metal
The task of a standard cold trap / cold finger is for example to catch and hold the condensate of a gas stream in front of a vacuum pump.
Hence different materials may be present in the gas stream (e.g., water / solvent / acid or alkali containing gases), the condensation temperature of the material to be condensed must be considered first. Having a cold trap, the material made off (glass or metal) and the geometry of the cold trap play an important role regarding the performance of the cold trap. In order to increase the performance of cold traps, these are sometimes provided with integrated baffles, so that the gas is more swirled in the condensation space and thus better condensation can take place on the cold inner wall of the cold trap.
In order to obtain a constant performance of a cold trap / cold finger, the coolant level (LN2) inside the Dewar flask also must be kept constantly on a high level. This can be achieved with an automatic LN2 level control. By such an automatic LN2 level controller, the cold trap / cold finger is always supplied with sufficient LN2 coolant, so that an optimal condensation performance of the cold trap / cold finger is guaranteed. For this purpose, complete LN2 level control systems for cold traps are offered.

- Two sections
A special version is the two section cold trap. It has a KF NW 50 flange as the connection part. This type of cold trap enables the condensation area to be separated from the upper section of the cold trap. This ensures that the removal of the condensation and the cleaning of the cold traps can be carried out very easily. This version is also suitable for when a cold trap has to be permanently installed inside an apparatus, so that only the lower section of the cold trap has to be removed in order to empty out the condensation. The KF NW 50 flange connecting piece is secured in place using a spring Aluminium clamp and this is included in our scope of delivery.

Automatic level control systems for liquid nitrogen
In many cryogenic applications, such as shrinking of shafts and bushings in LN2, freezing of components or biological samples, using of LN2 as a coolant in cold traps, calibrating of sensors in LN2, etc., it is important to maintain a constant LN2 liquid level. This is achieved with the LN2 level control of KGW-Isotherm. With help of our LN2 level control, it is possible to keep a constant level of LN2 between the minimum and maximum sensor inside the flask. The KGW LN2 level control can be connected to almost every LN2 container.
Automatic LN2 - level control devices for manual shrinking
To make manual or automatic connections safely through shrinking, it is important that a sufficient cooling is ensured at the shrinking components. LN2 is usually used as coolant for shrinking bushes or shafts. With help of an automatic LN2 level control system the necessary cooling can be ensured. The cooling via LN2 can be secured for the shrinking process.
